Serbia's e-Visa Replaces the Embassy Visit for Nationals Who Need a Visa

Serbia now issues short-stay visas electronically. Travellers from countries that need a Serbian visa can apply online rather than visiting an embassy, and receive a digital visa that is checked electronically at the border.

What changed
Serbia began issuing electronic visas in April 2025 and launched the system publicly in June 2025, initially for nationals of 46 countries. The government linked the change to Expo 2027, which Belgrade will host, and to its wider tourism push.

The e-visa is a short-stay visa. It permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

What it does not change
Who needs a visa. Travellers whose nationality is visa-exempt for Serbia are unaffected. Travellers whose nationality needs a visa still need one; the change is in how it is applied for and issued.

The conditions. An e-visa is still a visa. Applicants provide passport details, a photograph and information about their trip, and the application can be refused.

Is my nationality covered?
The system launched for 46 nationalities, and the government has said it will be extended. Serbia has not published an updated count, so check your own nationality at the time you apply rather than relying on the launch figure.

The 90 in 180 rule
This is the part travellers combining Serbia with neighbouring countries need to watch. Days in Serbia within any rolling 180-day period count towards the 90-day limit, and the e-visa does not reset that count.

What to do
If your nationality needs a Serbian visa, check whether the electronic route is open to you before booking an embassy appointment. Print the e-visa and carry it with the passport you applied with. Count your days if you are moving in and out of Serbia across the region.
