China's Visa-Free Entry for Five Latin American Countries Runs to 31 December 2026

Travellers from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay can currently visit China without a visa for up to 30 days. The arrangement was introduced as a trial, extended once, and now has an end date that falls at the close of this year.

What applies now
Ordinary passport holders from the five countries can enter China visa-free for stays of up to 30 days. Permitted purposes are business, tourism, visiting family and friends, exchanges and transit.

The arrangement began on 1 June 2025 as a one-year trial due to end on 31 May 2026. In November 2025, China extended its unilateral visa-free policy, covering these five countries and many others, to 31 December 2026.

The date that matters
The extension runs until the end of 31 December 2026. No further extension has been announced for these five countries.

China has extended the policy for one other country into 2027, which shows that extensions are decided country by country and cannot be assumed.

Who should pay attention
Travellers booking trips that start, or continue, into January 2027. Anyone relying on an older article that still gives the original end date of 31 May 2026. And travellers whose purpose falls outside the permitted list, such as work, study or journalism, who need a visa regardless of the arrangement.

What visa-free entry does not cover
Stays longer than 30 days. Purposes outside the permitted list. And it does not remove the border officer's discretion to ask about the trip.

What to do
If your trip ends by 31 December 2026 and fits within 30 days for a permitted purpose, the visa-free arrangement applies. If any part of it falls in 2027, check the official position closer to the date. If no extension has been announced by then, apply for a visa.
