How do I pay for the Malaysia eVisa, and is my payment secure?

You pay online when you submit, in a single all-inclusive charge that covers both the Malaysian government fee and our service fee. We accept VISA, MasterCard, AMEX, Apple Pay, G Pay, DISCOVER and UnionPay, and every transaction runs over an SSL-secured encrypted connection. You receive an emailed receipt once the payment clears, and the fee is non-refundable once the application is submitted - so double-check your passport spelling and travel dates before you pay.

Do I need a visa for Malaysia, or can I enter visa-free?

Most visitors do not need one. Citizens of ASEAN, the EU, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea enter Malaysia visa-free for 14 to 90 days, and - as a temporary measure until the end of 2026 - so do China and India for 30 days. The eVisa is for the nationalities that still need a visa, mainly South Asian countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Afghanistan and many African countries. Can I work or study in Malaysia on the tourist eVisa?

Accepted Answer

No. The Malaysia tourist eVisa is for tourism, visiting family or friends, and short social or business meetings only. It does not permit paid work, freelancing or long-term study - those require a separate Employment Pass or Student Pass arranged through a Malaysian employer or institution. Working or overstaying on a tourist eVisa risks fines and entry bans, so apply for the right pass if your trip involves work or study.

Do I still need the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)?

Yes - and it is separate from your eVisa. Almost every traveller must complete the free Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online within 3 days before arrival; it replaced the old paper arrival card. The MDAC is free on the official Immigration site - beware of look-alike websites that charge for it. We remind you to complete your MDAC once your eVisa is approved.

Malaysia eVisa validity vs stay - what is the difference?

The validity is the window in which you must enter Malaysia - 3 months (90 days) from issue for the single-entry eVisa. The stay is how long you may remain once admitted - up to 30 days. The single-entry eVisa cannot be extended, so plan to leave within 30 days or apply for a different visa class.

Which nationalities can apply for the Malaysia eVisa online?

The eVisa is for visa-required nationalities - mainly Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Afghanistan in South Asia, and many African countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Cameroon and Rwanda, plus Colombia. What passport and photo does the Malaysia eVisa require?

An ordinary passport valid at least 6 months from arrival, with at least two blank pages for stamps. Your photo must be recent, on a white background, full face. We check both before we submit so a format slip does not cost you an approval.

What supporting documents does the Malaysia eVisa need?

Besides your passport and photo, Malaysia wants a confirmed return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation (a hotel booking or your host's details) and evidence of sufficient funds for your stay. We review these before filing, since missing or mismatched documents are a common cause of delay or refusal.

I am flying into Sabah or Sarawak (Borneo) - is that different?

Yes. Sabah and Sarawak, Malaysia's two states on Borneo, run their own immigration controls. Even on a single trip you clear immigration again when you travel there from Peninsular Malaysia, and you receive a fresh entry stamp - usually 30 days - for that state. Your eVisa covers entry to Malaysia; just keep your passport handy for the extra check.

Can I extend my Malaysia eVisa or stay longer than 30 days?

The single-entry tourist eVisa is for up to 30 days and cannot be extended - you must leave before it expires. If you need longer, you would apply for a different visa class. Overstaying carries fines, detention and possible entry bans, so always leave on time.

The Malaysia eVisa is single entry - what does that mean?

Accepted Answer

With a single-entry eVisa, the visa is used up once you leave Malaysia. If you plan a side trip - say to Singapore or Thailand - and want to return, you would need a fresh eVisa for the next trip. For a straightforward one-time visit, the single-entry eVisa is all you need.

Do children and infants need their own Malaysia eVisa?

Yes. Every traveller, including babies and children, needs their own eVisa and their own passport, and each application is separate. Children also need their own MDAC. If a child travels with only one parent, carry documents proving the relationship in case border officers ask.

When is the best time to visit Malaysia, and what can I see?
