ETIAS

Everything You Need to Know Before You Visit Europe

What is ETIAS

European Travel Information and Authorization System or ETIAS is an electronic authorization that allows you to enter and travel within the Schengen Zone for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

It is required for travelers from countries that currently enjoy visa-free entry to Europe. Once approved, the authorization is linked directly to your passport and checked at European borders when you arrive.

Nota: ETIAS is an upcoming travel requirement that will become mandatory for visa-exempt travelers to Europe starting in 2025.

Key Features of ETIAS

ETIAS is designed to make travel to Europe safe, simple, and efficient. Here’s what makes it unique:

Fully Online Application

You don’t need to visit an embassy or consulate. Everything is completed online in just a few minutes. This saves time, avoids paperwork, and allows you to apply from anywhere in the world.

Multiple Entry Access

During the validity of your ETIAS, you can enter and leave Europe as many times as you like. This is especially useful if you plan to visit different European countries in one trip, or if you travel frequently for work, study, or family reasons.

Quick Processing Time

Most ETIAS applications are approved within a few hours. In rare cases, it may take up to 14 working days. This means you can make last-minute travel plans without worrying about long embassy waiting times.

Affordable and Transparent

The ETIAS system is designed to be low-cost, especially compared to traditional visa processes. There are no hidden charges, and the fee is paid securely online.

Coverage Across 30+ European Countries

One ETIAS approval lets you enter and travel across all countries in the Schengen Zone. That means you don’t have to apply separately for France, Germany, Italy, Spain, or any other member country; one authorization covers them all.

Long Validity Period

An ETIAS approval is valid for up to 3 years (or until your passport expires). You don’t need to reapply every time you travel, making it a cost-effective and hassle-free solution for repeat travelers.

Secure Digital Link to Your Passport

Your ETIAS is not a physical document. Instead, it is electronically linked to your passport. This reduces the risk of losing paperwork and ensures smooth border checks when you arrive in Europe.

Stronger Security and Safer Travel

ETIAS uses advanced security checks across multiple databases to screen travelers before arrival. This makes Europe safer, while also ensuring a smoother travel experience for genuine tourists and business travelers.

Who Is Exempt from ETIAS?

The following groups do not need ETIAS:

  • EU citizens traveling within Europe.
  • Holders of a valid Schengen visa.
  • Long-term residents or work permit holders in EU countries.

Perguntas frequentes

Is ETIAS a visa?

No. ETIAS is not a visa; it is an electronic travel authorization. Unlike a visa, it does not require an embassy visit or an interview. The process is fully online, faster, and simpler, but it is still mandatory for eligible travelers before entering Europe.

How long can I stay with ETIAS?

ETIAS allows you to stay in the Schengen Area for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This is ideal for short-term visits such as tourism, business trips, family visits, or transit. If you plan to stay longer, you must apply for a national visa or residence permit instead.

Can I visit multiple countries with one ETIAS?

Yes. A single ETIAS authorization grants you entry to all countries in the Schengen Zone. You can travel freely between member states during your stay, without needing a separate authorization for each country.

Do children need ETIAS?

Yes. Every traveler, including infants and minors, must have their own ETIAS authorization linked to their passport. Parents or legal guardians can complete the application on behalf of their children.

What if my ETIAS is denied?

If your ETIAS application is denied, you will receive an email explaining the reason. In some cases, you may correct the information and reapply with us.

Do dual nationals need ETIAS?

Yes. If you hold two passports, you must apply for ETIAS using the passport from a visa-exempt country. Your ETIAS will only be valid when traveling with that specific passport.

Do family members of EU citizens need ETIAS?

Yes. Family members who are non-EU citizens and do not hold an EU residence card are required to apply for ETIAS before traveling to Europe.
