Visa Requirements for Cambodian Citizens

The passport ranking for Cambodia is 88th in the world. Still, Cambodian citizens can enjoy a lot of opportunities when travelling abroad. There are various visa application methods for Cambodians, including traditional visa, eVisa, Electronic Travel Authorizations (ETA), Visa on Arrival (VoA), and sometimes visa-free based on the destination.

Right now, 58 countries offer an eVisa or an eTA, and 26 countries offer a VoA option to Cambodian Passport holders. Additionally, there are 17 countries that offer visa-free entry to Cambodians.

Whether the visa is required or not, the Cambodian nationals must have a passport valid for at least six (6) months from the entry date.

There are still some countries that only allow Cambodians to apply for a traditional visa. In that case, the travellers must visit the embassy of the respective country. Some embassies or consulates may allow online applications. So, it’s always best to check the policy of your destination country before applying.

Countries Offering eVisa and eTA to Cambodians

If the destination country offers eVisa and eTA, it simply eliminates the hassle of visiting an embassy. In both cases, you can apply online and get a fast approval. So what are the differences between eVisa and eTA?

An eVisa is a fully digital travel document. You can get it after submitting an online application, paying the fee, and uploading the required documents. Once approved, it’s sent to the applicant by email. Travellers can either show a printed copy or the downloaded soft copy on their phone during immigration.

An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), on the other hand, is not a visa but a pre-entry authorization for travel. It’s linked directly to applicants’ passports and allows them to board their flights without any additional paperwork.

An eTA comes with a specified timeframe to get the visa. If an applicant fails to get the visa within the timeframe, the eTA expires. In that case, they must reapply for a new eTA.
