How many countries can Indian passport holders visit without a visa in advance?

Accepted Answer

Around 55 destinations are open to Indians without arranging a visa first - some fully visa-free, the rest as a visa on arrival or a free eTA. They cluster in South and Southeast Asia, the Indian Ocean, Africa and the Caribbean: think Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Thailand, Malaysia, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. For most of Europe, the Americas and the Gulf you will still need a visa, though many are now a simple online eVisa.

Which countries give Indians an eVisa or eTA online?

Accepted Answer

Around 70 countries now let Indians apply online instead of visiting a consulate. An eVisa is a full visa you complete online and receive by email; an eTA is a lighter electronic pass that works the same way. Popular ones you can arrange through us include Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Kenya, Egypt, Russia, Azerbaijan, the UAE, Uzbekistan, Tanzania and Ethiopia.

Which destinations can I apply for through eVisas.com with an Indian passport?

You can apply directly for 27 destinations - among them Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Botswana, Cambodia, Cuba, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Laos, Madagascar, Mongolia, Morocco, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Russia, Seychelles, South Africa, Suriname, Tajikistan, Tanzania, the UAE, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. Three more - Japan, Taiwan and Turkey - are possible if you meet one extra condition, explained on each card. We complete the form, check it and submit it for you.

Is it true that holding a US, UK or Schengen visa makes travel easier for Indians?

Accepted Answer

Yes - it is one of the most useful things an Indian traveller can have. A valid (and often already-used) US, UK or Schengen visa or residence permit unlocks easier entry to several countries that are otherwise embassy-only: a visa on arrival in the UAE and Oman, the tourist route into Saudi Arabia, the online e-Visa for Turkey, and smoother entry to places like Georgia, Bahrain and the Bahamas. Keep that visa handy when you apply.

Do Indians need a visa for the Gulf - UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait?

Accepted Answer

Mostly yes, but the routes differ. The UAE and Bahrain issue Indians an online eVisa, which we can prepare. Qatar grants a visa waiver on arrival under conditions. Saudi Arabia and Oman generally need a sponsor or an embassy visa, or a qualifying US/UK/Schengen visa or residence for the online route. Kuwait is embassy-based for tourism. Gulf work and residence visas are a separate, employer-sponsored process.

Can Indians really travel visa-free to Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Nepal and Bhutan allow Indians freedom of movement - you can enter with a passport or even a Voter ID, with no visa needed. The Maldives gives a free 90-day visa on arrival to all visitors, including Indians. These neighbours are among the easiest trips an Indian passport allows, with nothing to apply for before you fly.

Is Thailand still visa-free for Indians?

Accepted Answer

As of now, yes - Indians can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days for tourism, and you complete the free digital arrival card before you travel. Please note Thailand has signalled a change toward a paid visa on arrival for Indian visitors, so confirm the current rule close to your trip. Either way, it is not something you need to buy from us right now.

Question 8

Is Malaysia visa-free for Indians?

Accepted Answer

Yes, for now. Malaysia offers Indians visa-free entry for up to 30 days for tourism, currently in place until the end of December 2026. You only need to complete the free Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online before you travel. After that window the policy may revert, so check before booking far-ahead trips.

Question 9

Do Indians need a visa for Europe and the United Kingdom?

Accepted Answer

Yes. There is no visa-waiver between India and Europe, so a short trip to the Schengen area (France, Spain, Italy, Germany and the rest) needs a Schengen visa from the relevant consulate or visa centre. The United Kingdom requires a Standard Visitor visa. Both are decided in person and are not eVisas, so they fall outside what we process online.

Can Indians visit the United States or Canada without a visa?

Accepted Answer

No. India is not part of the US Visa Waiver Program, so there is no ESTA - a US trip needs a B1/B2 visitor visa with an embassy interview. Canada similarly requires a visitor visa (its eTA is only for visa-exempt nationalities, which does not include India, though a US or Canadian PR card can help). Both are embassy processes we do not handle.

How does Turkey's e-Visa work for Indians?

Accepted Answer

Turkey does not give Indians a plain e-Visa on passport alone. You qualify for the online e-Visa (single entry, 30 days) only if you already hold a valid Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa or residence permit. Without one of those, Turkey is an embassy sticker visa. That is why we list Turkey as a conditional destination - have your supporting visa ready and we can prepare the e-Visa.

Question 12

Is Sri Lanka's eTA free for Indians?

Accepted Answer

Yes. As a fellow SAARC country, India gets the Sri Lanka eTA free of any government fee, though the eTA is still mandatory before you travel. Because there is no fee to collect, we point Indians to apply for it directly rather than charge a service for something the government provides at no cost. It is one of the easier approvals for an Indian passport.

How does Japan's eVisa work for Indians who live abroad?

Accepted Answer

Japan's eVisa is based on where you legally reside, not only on your passport. An Indian who lives in an eligible host country - such as the UK, USA, Canada or Australia - can apply online and show proof of that residence. Indians living in India itself apply through a Japanese visa centre instead, which is why Japan is a conditional destination on this page.

Question 14

How long does my Indian passport need to be valid?

Accepted Answer

Aim for at least six months of validity counting from the day you arrive, plus a couple of blank pages for stamps. This six-month rule is used almost everywhere, and airlines routinely check it at the boarding gate - if your passport is close to expiry they can refuse to let you board, so renew it well before you travel.
