A lot - the Malaysian passport is the 6th strongest in the world, with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to around 183 destinations. That includes all of ASEAN, China, Japan, the whole Schengen area, the UK (now via a quick eTA), Turkey, the UAE and most of Latin America and Africa. For the large majority of trips you simply book your flight and go.

Which countries still ask Malaysians for an eVisa or eTA online?

Only a small group. A few need a full eVisa - India, Russia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia among them - and a handful of normally visa-free countries now ask for an electronic travel authorisation before you fly: the UK, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. These are the ones worth arranging in advance, and they are exactly what we handle for you.

Which destinations can I apply for through eVisas.com with a Malaysian passport?

You can apply directly for 17 destinations - among them the United Kingdom, New Zealand and South Korea (eTA), and India, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Madagascar, Armenia, Seychelles, Papua New Guinea and Ukraine (eVisa). One more - Oman - is possible with one extra condition, explained on its card.

Do Malaysians need an eTA to visit the United Kingdom now?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Since January 2025 the UK asks visa-free visitors, including Malaysians, to get an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before they fly. It is not a visa - it is a quick online approval linked to your passport, valid two years, allowing stays of up to six months. It is one of the things we can prepare for you in minutes.

Do Malaysians need anything for Australia and New Zealand?

Accepted Answer

Yes, an electronic authorisation rather than a visa. For Australia, Malaysians use the ETA (subclass 601); for New Zealand, the NZeTA plus a small International Visitor levy. Both are quick online approvals tied to your passport, not embassy visas, and both must be in place before you board your flight.

Is a K-ETA needed for South Korea?

Accepted Answer

Yes. South Korea has temporarily waived its K-ETA for some neighbours, but Malaysia is not on that exemption list right now, so Malaysians do need a K-ETA before travelling. It is a multiple-entry electronic authorisation valid for a few years. Re-check close to your trip, as the exemption list changes from time to time.

Can Malaysians travel to the United States without a visa?

Accepted Answer

No. Malaysia is not part of the US Visa Waiver Program, so there is no ESTA option. To visit the United States you need a B1/B2 visitor visa, which means an application and an interview at a US embassy or consulate, usually issued for ten years. It is an embassy process, so it is not something we handle online.

Is Saudi Arabia open to Malaysians for tourism?

Yes. Malaysia is on Saudi Arabia's tourist eVisa list, so Malaysians can get the Saudi eVisa online (or a visa on arrival), valid for a one-year multiple-entry stay - and we can prepare it for you. Umrah and Hajj are a separate pilgrimage-visa route handled by approved operators, distinct from the tourist eVisa.

Can Malaysians travel freely across ASEAN, China and Japan?

Yes, very easily. As an ASEAN member, Malaysians enter Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, the Philippines and Brunei visa-free. China grants Malaysians visa-free entry too, and Japan allows 90 days visa-free on a biometric passport. Across most of Asia, you simply travel on your passport.

Do Malaysians need a visa for Europe and the Schengen area?

For short tourist trips, no. Malaysians enter the Schengen area visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, covering France, Germany, Italy, Spain and most of Europe. From 2025 onward you will need the ETIAS travel authorisation - a quick online approval, not a visa - once it launches, so check before you fly.

Do Malaysians need a visa for India and Russia?

Yes, but both are online. India issues Malaysians an e-Tourist Visa you complete online and use at designated airports and seaports. Russia offers Malaysians its unified e-Visa, a short single-entry authorisation arranged before travel. Both are eVisas we can prepare for you, with no consulate visit required.

Is Sri Lanka free for Malaysians?

Accepted Answer

Effectively yes. Sri Lanka now waives the eTA fee for Malaysians under its expanded free-eTA scheme, so there is no government charge - though you still need to hold the eTA before you travel. Because the government fee is zero, we point Malaysians to obtain it directly rather than charge for something provided free.

Do I still need to show funds, a hotel booking and return tickets?

Usually yes, even where entry is visa-free. Border officers and airlines like to see a return or onward flight, where you will be staying, and that you can cover your costs. Having these ready avoids awkward questions at check-in and the border, and they are often required fields when you complete an eVisa or eTA form.

How long does my Malaysian passport need to be valid?

Accepted Answer

Aim for at least six months of validity counting from the day you arrive, and make sure there is a blank page for stamps. This six-month rule is standard almost everywhere, and airlines frequently check it at the gate - if your passport is close to expiry they can stop you boarding, so renew it in good time.

Keep these to hand and the rest is straightforward: a passport valid for six months or more, a clear passport-style photo, your travel dates with a return or onward ticket, your accommodation details, and proof you can fund the trip. For an eTA country like the UK or Australia, you mainly just need the passport and a few quick questions answered.
