Bahrain's eVisa Defaults to a Two-Week Stay: Check It Covers Your Whole Trip

Travellers heading to Bahrain often assume its eVisa works like other Gulf visas they have used, with a month or more in the country. The default is shorter than that, and it is easy to end up with permission that runs out before the trip does.

The default is two weeks
Bahrain's standard visit visa is issued for a two-week stay. Longer visit visas exist, for stays of up to six months, but they are a different choice at the point of application, not an automatic extension.

A traveller who selects the default and then stays for three weeks is overstaying from day 15.

Who this catches
Business travellers whose meetings run into a second or third week. Families visiting relatives for a longer holiday. Travellers combining Bahrain with neighbouring countries who return to Manama for the end of the trip and do not count the days across both visits.

The passport rule
Your passport must be valid for at least six months after the date you arrive. A passport that expires in five months is a refusal, regardless of how short the trip is.

Evidence of onward travel
Applicants can be asked for evidence of onward or return travel when they apply. Travellers on open-ended or one-way itineraries should have this in place before starting the application, not after.

What to do
Count your days in Bahrain before you apply, including the arrival and departure days. If your trip is longer than two weeks, choose a visa for the full length of the stay at the application stage.

Check your passport expiry date against the six-month rule, and have your onward or return booking ready.
