Visa Requirements for Ghanaian Citizens
Ghanaian travelers must meet different entry rules, which depend on the country they want to visit. Some destinations require a visa in person, while others allow an eVisa, an ETA, a Visa on Arrival (VOA), or even visa-free entry.
As a starting point, all Ghanaian citizens must hold a valid passport with at least six (6) months of validity from the date they enter any foreign country.
Ghana is a member of the ECOWAS regional group. That’s why not only certain dignitaries and special categories but all the ECOWAS countries’ travelers are able to enter some West African countries without a visa under the Visa Exemption Scheme.
Ghanaian passport holders can visit nine (9) countries without a visa, supported by the country’s global passport ranking of 65. However, for many other destinations, the entry process is different.
For eVisa and ETA destinations, Ghanaian citizens can apply online for 53 countries. These digital options are easy and convenient because the entire application can be completed before traveling. Some countries also provide Visa on Arrival (VOA). In this case, travelers will receive their visa upon arriving at the airport or border. Currently, about 12 countries offer this option to Ghanaian nationals.
If a country requires a sticker or stamped visa, Ghanaian citizens must visit the embassy or consulate in person. In many cases, embassies allow travelers to schedule an appointment online before their visit.

Countries Offering eVisa and ETA to Ghanaian
An eVisa is a digital visa that you apply for online. You do not need to visit an embassy or consulate. You will get the eVisa in your email immediately after approval. And you can either store it on your phone or print it out to show at the airport.
An ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) is similar but works slightly differently. An ETA lets you travel to the country without getting a visa in advance. After you arrive, the immigration officers will issue your actual visa at the airport or border.
Like an eVisa, you can also apply online for an ETA and receive it at your email. However, an ETA comes with a specific period of validity . You must enter the destination country within that timeframe to receive your visa.
If you miss that timeframe, your ETA becomes invalid and you will need to apply for a new ETA.
