Visa Requirements for Turkish Citizens

Turkish citizens have several options when traveling abroad, depending on the entry rules of the destination country. They may need to apply for a traditional visa in person, complete an eVisa or Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) online, apply for a Visa on Arrival (VoA), or, in many cases, travel without a visa.

At present, 53 countries accept applications for an eVisa or ETA from Turkish nationals, both of which can be processed online. A further 19 countries provide the option of a Visa on Arrival. Where a sticker or stamped visa is required, travelers must submit their application directly to the embassy or consulate of the destination country. Some governments also allow appointments to be arranged online in advance.

In every case, Turkish citizens must ensure their passport is valid for at least six (6) months from the date of entry.

Ranked 43rd in the world, the Turkish passport allows visa-free entry to 64 countries. Since rules differ across destinations, it is always recommended to check the specific visa requirements before beginning an application.

Countries Offering eVisa and ETA to Turkey

An eVisa is a digital visa issued entirely online. Applicants can complete the process without visiting an embassy or consulate, and once approved, the visa can be stored on a smartphone or printed to present at the airport.

An Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is a travel permit that allows travelers to enter a country without applying for a traditional visa in advance. On arrival, the actual visa is issued by immigration authorities.

Like the eVisa, the ETA can also be applied for online and is usually delivered by email. However, while an eVisa can be used within its full validity period, an ETA has a set timeframe. Travelers must enter the destination country within that window to receive their visa. If the timeframe expires, the ETA becomes invalid, and a new application is required.
